5/7/2010

After a small break from playing due to some weather conflicts last week, the Ballahs were back at it last night. With that, there’s good news and bad news to report…

Good news is that we had 3 amazing, out-of-the-park home runs! Two from Jon Wright and another one by coach Vance.
Bad news is that only one of them were able to count in our favor…

O well, they were still pretty awesome and that softball rule of ‘quid pro quo’ regarding homeruns is for the birds!

Kicking the game off with 5 runs, Ballahs were feeling good and sitting pretty. Or so we thought! They came out a bit slower starting than us but before we knew it the game was all tied up and our play wasn’t exactly improving at a pace we needed to turn up the heat.

We had a lot of hustle from the outfield. This was especially apparent after about two or three rounds of the other team smacking balls just enough to the right or left of wherever Dave was, causing him to be in a constant state of running motion. That boy was sweatin’ like a priest at altar boy camp, whoo-ee!

But even with the outfield team work, cross field, bullet paced ball-throwing, hard hit batting and the running speeds of a freight train, we were unable to pull out with a win. Whomp-whomp…

It’s all good though Ballahs, we’ll get back into our groove and hopefully see more consistency with the weather in order to get this team back on the track of kickin’ ass and taking names! Next week we need to show team ’Parrot Heads’ who’s captain, and send them wing-clipped, off the plank. See everyone there on Thursday, May 13th @ 7:30.

Kicking Off 2010 Softball Season With Authority!

What a way to kick off the season!!!
First game of the IPI Ballahs softball league; early game time, crisp Spring air, sun shining, slight breeze, clean diamond, rested players—doesn't get much better than that when setting a scenario leading up to victory!
As with previous seasons, while well intentioned, we didn’t ever manage to pull out any team practices before the season opener (shocking). However, watching the game last night you may have assumed differently.
We rocked it!
Team Deloitte came out and began to warm up. But even with the extensive, interesting, and even slightly arousing stretching techniques going on at one side of the field and the number of ‘leggy’ chicks making up their female players, they were no match for the hard hitting, fast running, big playing Ballahs.
Jon Wright set the tone early by smacking a ball straight outta the ball park! The entire game had double-play precision scattered throughout each inning coupled with some pretty sweet slides and bullet fast runs to safety. We had our mini Vance lucky charms, some fans we know and love, and a surprise new mega fan that jumped on the IPI Ballah Fan Club Train with some serious vigor, (loudly) cheering on our every move into a victorious ending.
IPI: 9 —- Deloitte: 3
WooHoo!
If last night’s game is any indication of what the season will be like (or could be like with some continued sobriety during play)—then everyone is in for a real treat!
Gear up for our next game: Thursday, April 22nd @ 8:30 pm
Hope to see you all there!
